Stay with us at Altitude Farm, and experience everything we have to offer. Farmhouse breakfasts and simple family food- cooked well. Taste our homemade and local produce.
Enjoy farm activities or forest walks, community cycling, and horseriding. Let others in your group be active whilst you relax... simply reading in a quiet part of the garden and admiring the beautiful mountain skyline that looks over our home. Book a massage or have a swim in our pool...
Many stay with us whilst a family member does the 3-day hike up Mount Kenya. We are ideally placed between both Narumoru and Sirimon Mount Kenya park gates. Some of us prefer to just admire it from our beds, and allow the serious hiker(s) to join us and have a good night's sleep, having completed their own trip.
Take a day trip to the many conservancies with the big five literally on our doorstep; Including the famous Ol Pejeta, but equally amazing Solio (home of 200 rhinos) Sanager, and Lloldaiga conservancies. Sample some of the very good eateries on the way into and within Nanyuki town nearby. Take a drive out into the African bush or up our mountain for a picnic by car or foot.
We are more than happy to tailor these farm stay adventures to suit you, pleasing every member of your family or group.

We have a wonderful farmstay home in the foothills of Mount Kenya. Beyond our stables and our fields, and above the forest ridge, our skyline is dominated by the beautiful mountain, which calls us to explore it. Our passion is to do this on horseback, of course! This is truly a magical place to live and from here we run Everything Altitude - offering horse-riding tuition, adventures on horseback, and a comfortable and welcoming farmstay for the horse-loving adventurer.
We are on the edge of the Mount Kenya National Park, and at the southern end of the famous Laikipia Plateau, with its patchwork of private and community-based wildlife sanctuaries which support phenomenal wildlife densities, second only to the Masai Mara. Day trips from our home to the wonderful nearby conservancies of Ol Pejeta, Solio, Sangare, and Lloldaigas are easily arranged, and we collaborate with many of these conservancies - our longtime friends and partners in adventure - so that our more experienced Everything Altitude riders can enjoy riding out to the Big Five on horseback!
Our small upcountry town of Nanyuki has a number of cafés and restaurants, some nice swimming pools, and a great secondhand clothes market - the mitumba - all only a 25 minute drive heading northwards from our farm.
John and Wizzy are partners in Everything Altitude, and along with John's two boys, Mahon and Allan, will be your hosts on the farm. Their combined knowledge of all things horse, and their passion for Laikipia’s landscape and wildlife, is simply huge. Whatever you choose from Everything Altitude, they, and their small but essential team, will ensure it will be an unforgettable experience.
Kenyan born and bred, John is a phenomenally talented and experienced horseman and polo instructor. He has spent decades working with horses and managing thousands of acres of land in Laikipia. You could not be in better hands while you are here for truly getting to know this beautiful country.
British-born, but Kenya has been home for 15 years. Wizzy is John's partner in crime in everything at Everything Altitude and is the make-it-happen person...whatever you want to do, her organizational skills will sort all. Wizzy has been a competitive rider and riding instructor across many equestrian disciplines and across two continents for several decades.
John's two sons complete the family unit, and when visiting children are present they will want for no more than to join forces with these two brothers in fun and adventure!
Our cats and dogs roll their eyes and accept yet another canine visitor into their midst! However, they all love the visiting humans!
Without our equine family, we would not be who and what we are. Come and meet them here at Everything Altitude where you’ll get to know every horse’s individual story and character!
At Everything Altitude, our operations are powered by a dedicated mix of resident staff and local talent from our neighbouring village community.
Our core resident team lives right on the farm, providing round-the-clock care, oversight and security for our animals and estate, supported by our current stable intern as part of our nationwide programme.
With a deep passion for horsemanship and a career forged in high-performance equine care, Joseph leads our yard. He brings a wealth of international experience, having spent many years working and race-riding in Abu Dhabi’s competitive racing scene before returning to Kenya to be close to his family. Joseph oversees the entire yard, manages equine care, supports our syces and leads a large proportion of our riding lessons.
Fun fact: If you take a lesson with Joseph, expect one core rule to echo in your mind forever: “Inside leg, inside leg, use your inside leg!”
John is the versatile backbone of the farm. He began as one of our first interns—a programme that has since grown into a popular nationwide initiative—before joining our team full-time. While his heart lies with the horses, milking goats and poultry, John’s practical skills make him our first call for farm repairs, solving most technical challenges without the need for outside specialists. He is also expanding his equine-care skills by learning the art of barefoot trimming, keeping even more horse-care essentials in-house.
Fun fact: Njenga loves our motorbikes almost as much as he loves our animals!
Esther brings exceptional care, warmth and attention to detail to our stables. She plays an important part in the daily management of the yard, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and keeping a close eye on the finer details of every horse’s routine and wellbeing.
Fun fact: For a change of pace from the tough physical work in the stables, Esther can often be found in the farmhouse kitchen helping Regina.
Regina is the heart of our farmhouse hospitality. Exceptionally reliable across housekeeping and cooking, she expertly manages our five-bedroom farmhouse, keeping team members and guests warm, comfortable and well-fed.
Fun fact: Regina has developed some amusing names for her culinary creations—expect to see dishes such as “Banana Drift” on the dessert menu!
Joining our resident staff are valued team members from the local village area, who come to the farm each day to keep our property, guest cottages, fields and attire in top condition.
Living locally, Esther joins us at least three days a week to support Regina with housekeeping and detailed laundry care. She also manages every changeover for our self-catering Besotted Cottage, ensuring each guest arrives to a beautifully prepared home.
Fun fact: Esther was so determined to join Everything Altitude that she applied for any position that would bring her here—whether working with the horses, in the house or anywhere in between. Beginning with laundry care, she worked her way up to become an indispensable part of the farm team.
Simon is the steady hand keeping our grounds in peak condition and our power running. Coming to us daily from the local area, he manages garden care and farm maintenance while serving as our on-site electrician, keeping our off-grid power system fully operational.
Fun fact: Simon’s other passion is taking guests on morning forest walks to the historic caves and sharing his rich knowledge of the local area, flora and fauna.
James provides essential support across both property maintenance and field care. Coming from the local community each day, he works with Simon on the grounds while also handling vital field duties—distributing hay, managing manure and ensuring a continuous water supply for all livestock across the farm.
Fun fact: James is a true gentleman whose impeccable manners hint at his past travels, though nowadays he is happiest working close to his family.
Thoma lives locally and runs his own sewing workshop, but joins us part-time at Everything Altitude. Working from our Creative Cottage, he handles textile repairs for the house and stables while crafting our unique range of equine and canine attire for both in-house use and sale.
Fun fact: Thoma has a simple rule for his workspaces: if an item is for an animal, he crafts it using our machines in the Creative Cottage; if it is for a human, he takes it back to make in his own workshop!
